Affirmative Action Overview
Affirmative Action is an equal opportunity program created by Presidential Executive Order 11246 in 1965. It is designed to remedy past discrimination in employment and eliminate current and future race and gender discrimination. Affirmative action at UNM promotes race and gender diversity in employment by recruiting qualified women, minorities, individuals with disabilities, and protected veterans into job applicant pools.
In order to meet the University's commitment to maintain and enhance its diverse workforce, hiring officials must show good faith efforts to target recruitment of women and minorities to ensure their representation in their respective applicant pools, regardless of whether the position has a placement goal, and to treat all applicants fairly and equitably.
